Great advice and easy reading,
After 30 years of continuous employment at different companies, I needed to get an idea on how to go about finding a new job. I found this book very refreshing and easy to read. The five steps make sense and the additional comments from Jim and Kathy, with two different perspectives, enhance the understanding of the job hunting process. Jim’s story helps you understand the reality of looking and keeping a job while Kathy’s insights is full of advice on how to go about the process. Having an engineering and financial background, I liked very much having a “Sucess Gauge” that allows you to measure your progress to the goal. I would recommend reading, even if you are not looking yet.

|It works,
This book offers a framework that consists of five steps over period of three months. There are independent insights from both authors that give more personal touch. The recommendations are written in actionable way and sound like a personal coach is standing next to you. Of course, every situation is different, so not every advice applies to you. That’s why there is a success gauge to ensure that overall you are achieving results according to the schedule. I personally like the emphasis on social networking because in my experience that way was the most successful. Another plus is a constant reminder of a positive attitude. I would cut myself some slacks from time to time though. The chapter about etiquette and interview skills is crucial when your resume works but you are still out of job. Working with headhunters is important indeed. Most offers I have gotten were from them. They are very active and interested in finding you a job, in contrast with HR. Another good point – negotiation and offers comparison. I like the fact that it is compact and written in plain digestible language, with maximum useful information. Highly recommend.
